Collection Description

Our JSTOR e-book collection offers nearly 6,000 e-books on a wide variety of subject areas.  The entire collection can be browsed in MIDCAT by searching for the title "JSTOR ebooks."

Alternatively, you can search Middlebury e-book content directly in JSTOR by using their "Advanced Search" screen:

  1. Select "Content I can access"
  2. Limit to "Books"

Note: selecting "All content" in step 1 will search across all JSTOR titles, including those to which we do not have access.  Please feel free to request a purchase through our purchase request form.

Devices

JSTOR e-books can be read using either the JSTOR viewer or as a PDF file using Adobe or other software that supports the PDF format.  PDF files are viewable on almost any type of device, including:

  • PCs
  • Macs
  • iOS devices (iPhones/iPads)
  • Android devices

Downloads

Each chapter of a JSTOR e-book can be downloaded individually as a separate PDF file.  This can be accomplished in a couple of different ways.

Method 1: Choose a chapter from the table of contents, and click "Download PDF"

Method 2: While reading a chapter from the e-book online, click on "Download PDF" at the top of the chapter viewer.

There do not seem to be page limits when downloading chapters from JSTOR e-books.

Printing

Once downloaded as a PDF file, a chapter, or pages from a chapter, from a JSTOR e-book can be easily printed from the Adobe software.  There are no page limits.
