What is ArchivesSpace?

ArchivesSpace logoSearch ArchivesSpace (go.middlebury.edu/aspace) for finding aids for manuscript and archival material in Special Collections.

You will not find digitized materials in ArchivesSpace, although you may, sometimes, find links to digitized materials.

If you would like to view an item or collection you have found using ArchivesSpace, please contact specialcollections@middlebury.edu to set up an appointment or to make a scan request.

What are archives, anyway? What is a finding aid?

  • Archives are records (including documents, photographs, diaries, audio-visual materials, and more) produced by individuals, groups, or organizations.

  • Finding aids are tools created by archivists that describe the contents of archival collections.

  • For more information, check out Harvard's The Hows and Whys of Finding Aids.
