Information about various ebook packages available through the Middlebury Library


Our ebooks are listed in Summon and MIDCAT. Many of our larger collections can be searched separately too.  See the separate tabs on the left hand side of this page for information specific to each collection.


For the large majority of our ebooks, you'll need only a web browser and Internet connection. information about printing and downloading ebooks can be found in the sections for specific packages.

Here's a short list of free software downloads that will let you read ebooks on your desktop or laptop:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader reads .pdf files.
  • Adobe Digital Editions reads .pdf and .epub files.  ADE is also required to download many ebooks for reading offline, moving between devices, and printing.
  • Bookworm reads .epub files
  • Sony Reader Library reads .epub and .lrf files
  • Calibre reads a variety of ebook filetypes, including .lrf, .pdf, .lit, .rtf, .opf, .mobi, .prc, .epub, .fb2, .imp, .rb and .html files.  Calibre is also very useful for converting non-Kindle formats (e.g., .epub) to Amazon's proprietary Kindle (.mobi) format
  • Stanza reads ebooks on your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
