Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

A guide to interlibrary loan at Middlbeury Libraries

Off Campus Access to ILL Services

Any student currently enrolled in Middlebury College has access to a large and effective resource in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Department. Students studying abroad or otherwise off-campus may place requests through ILL for any electronic or scanned materials.

To set yourself up as an Off-Campus patron.

Login to ILLiad  at  https://go.middlebury.edu/illiad/

If you have never used ILLiad before than you will need to create a new ILLiad acct.   Existing ILLiad users can access their delivery location under the Profile menu - Update Profile.

  • Use the first half of your e-mail (everything before the @ symbol) as your username, and your full e-mail password as your ILLiad password.

  • Select the Delivery Site of  "Off-Campus - MiddRemote." Click "Submit Information" at the bottom of the page to create your ILLiad account.

While listed as 'Off-Campus' we fill everything you order as electronic for remote delivery.  No physical loan requests will be filled.  When you return to campus make sure you swap your delivery location back to a local location.

Off Campus Access to Middlebury Materials through ILL

We also provide scans from the Middlebury Library Collections to students studying around the world. Requested book chapters and articles are scanned and delivered to the ILLiad website, where a patron from anywhere in the world can access it by downloading or printing it (from Adobe Acrobat).

For ease of access to article databases off-campus, the Library has recently implemented OpenAthens. Using this feature will allow you to access resources without changing your browser settings.

  • If you arrive at a journal landing-page directly from a web-search, look for a drop-down menu that says something like “Institutional Access”
  • From the drop-down menu, select “Middlebury College and Institute Libraries” (please note: you may see entries for just “Middlebury College” or just “Middlebury Institute.”  If so, do not select one of these - it won’t work.)

For complete details concerning off campus access please refer to Resources Available from Off-Campus guide.
